What We Do
-
Activities Offered
Whether children are new to gardening or know the basics and want more opportunities to practice, our activities are an excellent way to increase knowledge while creating a safe space in which students can feel confident that they will not be exposed to criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm while taking their minds off stressors. Each activity serves as a learning opportunity for students, while subtly reminding them about the mental health aspect of green spaces. Kids gain hands-on skills, and– depending on the activity–also learn about things like plant care, sustainability, and conservation. Cultivators’ programming options include:
- School or community garden design and cultivation
- Terrarium building
- Composting
- Flower pressing
- Mini succulent garden
- Nature walks

Mental Health Programming
Cultivators' mental health programming is built into hands-on activities and focused on getting kids to simply be aware of their emotions and how the outdoors can help them be emotionally healthy. This might include:
- Prompting kids to notice how the
outdoors makes them feel.
- Practicing mindfulness by
concentrating on the task at hand.
- Learning about self-care through
plant care.
- Introducing journaling through
simple prompts.

Comprehensive Pre/Post Planning
Cultivators work with you to be sure our programming meets your needs. Our school-based planning includes conversations with teachers, guidance staff, and key leadership to ensure our activities meet kids where they are. When possible, we build simple evaluations and ask the kids how we did so we can learn and grow, too.
